Christian's Current Book Obsessions

June 13, 2018

Christian has become obsessed with search & find it type books, or books where he has to perform activities while reading.  Before every nap and bedtime a combination of these four books is required to be ‘read’ or rather done.  My husband and I try hard some nights to convince Christian to read a “normal” book that tells a story and he wants nothing to do with it.  He just loves finding the required object, animal, monster or completing the necessary task that these books require in order to go to the next page.

My First Search & Find – this was the first of these types of books that we got Christian and it is still an all-time favorite of his.  It comes with an erasable marker but we don’t use it.  We just have Christian find different things on each page.  For ex. Do you see a sting-ray?  Do you see an animal that says Moo?  Do you see a mailman/chef/artist/etc? Do you see a rocket?  He would do this for hours if we let him.

*unfortunately I can’t find a place to buy the version we have but here is a similar one below.

Help! My Monsters Are On The Loose – this is a kid’s version of Where’s Waldo, but on each page there is a different monster that is hidden within a bunch of monsters and objects that your kid has to find.  At first I thought this would be too hard for him, but after three times going through it he finds the monsters every time. (Fun fact, our book came with the pages out of order but we are still obsessed with it).

I Spy Animals – each page has a letter and a bunch of animals.  We have Christian try to tell us which letter is on that page and then find the animal that starts with that letter.  This has been awesome for helping Christian learn his letters.  He definitely isn’t able to do this one all on his own yet but every night he is recognizing more and more letters and he is having a blast doing it.

Press Here – this one isn’t a find it book but Christian has to participate in the book which he loves.  Plus he thinks the book is magic with the dots appearing and changing colors when he performs the task so it is a classic in our house.  He calls it the magic book and is so proud of himself when 'reading' this book.
