GREAT: Once Christian got his bike and scooter I knew we needed a helmet before I was going to let him ride either one of those things. While I want him to explore and learn new things, I want him to be safe doing it. I knew I needed to find a helmet that he would want to wear else every day was going to be a battle that I didn’t want to have to fight. It needed to be comfortable for him while still being safe for me.
This has been perfect. Christian absolutely loves his helmet and more importantly he loves wearing it. When he ask if he can ride his scooter or bike he’ll immediately run straight to his helmet and ask if I can put it on first. He knows that without his helmet he doesn’t get to partake in the fun and he is completely onboard with that.
The helmet has 14 air vents, integrated bug mesh in the front vents, extended visor for maximum protection, nylon straps, pinch guard chin strap, and an adjustable fit dial for the perfect fit every time.
GOOD: Since safety is my biggest concern when finding a helmet, I found comfort knowing this meets all the CPSC standards. The helmet is incredibly easy to use so I’m never worried about whether or not I have it on properly.
The back dial allowing you to make the helmet bigger or smaller is easy to operate, the straps are cinch to tighten and the chin strap is easy to secure. There is also soft padding under the chin strap which provides a comfortable fit when being worn. The helmet comes in 6 bright colors so you are sure to find a helmet your child will love.
BAD: While the manufacturer states that the helmet fits children ages 1-4 years old or head size 18.5 - 20.5” I find that Christian is already on one of the larger settings and he isn’t 2.5 years old yet. At his doctor visit he is 60% for his head so I would have thought he would be on a smaller setting since it says it can go up to 4 years old.
With the current fit, I still feel like we will get at least a year out of it, maybe more depending on how fast his head grows. Since we use this helmet every single day I still feel like I’m getting a good buy out of this helmet.
The helmet cost $25, and with the high quality of the helmet I feel like this is a steal of a deal even if the amount of time I believe Christian will be able to wear it is only 1 year.
UGLY: I don’t have anything ugly to say about this helmet. I’m a big fan of Joovy in general and especially of this helmet. The fact that I am not having to force Christian to wear a helmet every day and go through some huge battle to get him to wear it, is enough of a reason for this to be my favorite helmet every. Knowing that Christian loves wearing it and it is providing him the protection he needs to stay safe makes me a happy mom.
