GREAT: Brushing your toddler’s teeth is HARD. I think there was a one week period where Christian would stand perfectly still with his mouth open allowing me to brush as long as I wanted to and I remember thinking ‘This is so easy.’ Little did I know the joke was on me. Now I have to brush his teeth while on the move, or him sitting then standing then laying down on the ground – it’s basically an Olympic sport to brush his teeth. I have about 20 long seconds to do my job and that is on the good days, so I need to use something fast and effective. That is where this product comes in. The toothbrush has a unique dentist-recommended triple-angle brush design that hugs the teeth cleaning all sides at once. Rather than having to brush the front, back and top of the teeth separately I’m now able to brush them at the same time which helps cut down on the time I have to spend wrestling my toddler in the bathroom.
GOOD: The toothbrush has an ergonomic, soft molded grip that is easy for both you and your child to hold. It is also safe for your wild one to bite down on as the bristles will bend, not break. There is also a suction cup at the bottom of the toothbrush in order for it to stay upright and secure on your counter-top in-between uses. It comes with a cap to keep your toothbrush clean when not in use which is also great to keep the bristles clean when you travel. The product also comes with a lifetime guarantee.
In general, I am a HUGE fan of the company, FridaBaby, as they not only make great products but also give back to parents in need. For each NoseFrida (see previous post on the product) or Windi purchase, FridaBaby gives one to a family in need thanks to their clinic and donation center partners across the county. While this doesn’t apply to the purchase of your toothbrush, I still wanted to point this out because if you don’t have a NoseFrida you need to see my post about it and buy it immediately – it is one of my top five favorite baby products ever.
BAD: We have a love / non-love relationship with this toothbrush in my household. Overall I am a fan of it because 7 out of 10 times Christian will stand relatively still long enough for me to get in good with this toothbrush and get the job done. The toothbrush makes the process fast, efficient and a happy time for both mom and toddler, as long as the toddler is partially cooperating. Those 3 times when the Tasmanian devil in my toddler comes out are made much tougher with this toothbrush. If Christian is refusing to brush his teeth and is squirming around all over the place this toothbrush makes it harder to brush his teeth well because of the design. Hence why my husband is on the non-love team with this toothbrush as Christian is usually in a rambunctious mood about 9 out of 10 times he tries to brush his teeth. For my husband, it is easier to brush with a normal toothbrush as you have to get the FridaSmile aligned around the teeth in order for it to work properly. When the kid is moving everywhere it makes accomplishing this task a whole lot harder and therefore you don’t feel as though you get as good as a brush as you could have with a standard toothbrush.
UGLY: I don’t have anything ugly to say about this product because for me a 70% success rate when brushing a toddler’s teeth is a win in my book. If your toddler is going to refuse to sit still for even half a second (like my husband experiences) then this might not be the product for you. It is always a gamble on how your toddler will respond to a product until you try it out, at $9.99 it isn’t too extremely painful to give this toothbrush a try.
